Arcom's
SBC-GX533 Development Kit for Windows CE 5.0 includes a pre-built Windows CE image pre-loaded into the 32MB onboard Flash drive - that means you don’t need to use Microsoft Platform Builder to start using Windows CE. The operating system image offers a comprehensive set of components for the widest selection of application solutions. The boot-loader supports a custom ‘splash’ screen - so you can display a company or product specific image on screen while Windows CE and your application are loading. To simplify development, the Windows CE start-up includes support for a VNC remote control desktop window, so you have a real-time view of your SBC-GX533 screen image on your desktop.
The Development Kit includes the
SBC-GX533 embedded PC single board computer fitted with 512Mbytes of DDR DRAM and 32Mbytes of Flash. We have made it easy to save time and achieve rapid application development using Windows CE 5.0 by including a full set of drivers, Microsoft's eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0 CD and all the cables to connect to your host system. A Windows CE 5.0 BSP is available on request.
The compressed Windows CE 5.0 image (nk.bin), registry, configuration files and bootloader occupy approximately 11Mbytes of the onboard Flash drive leaving approximately
21Mbytes for your Windows CE based application code.

Microsoft
Windows CE 5.0 may only be used in accordance with the following
license models:
Note: This Development Kit is supplied with an Evaluation Version of the Windows CE 5.0 operating system under the terms of the Windows Embedded Kitting Program. The Development Kit does not include a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) license label, which is no longer required. The use of the Evaluation Version of Windows CE is subject to your acceptance of the terms of the end user license agreement with Microsoft.
The Windows CE operating system has been configured to run on the Arcom
SBC-GX533 processor board. A copy of the operating system image is included on the Development Kit CD, and may be used to restore the operating system on the
SBC-GX533 board. The operating system image on the Development Kit CD may also be used to produce production copies of the supplied operating system. The Windows CE operating system may be used in your product using one of the following license options:
- Arcom can supply SBC-GX533 boards with the Windows CE operating system installed onto the local flash drive, or a Compact Flash card. These would be ordered as a single line item using a unique part number. A minimum order quantity will apply to this option. Please contact Arcom for information about order numbers and costs.
If you intend to use the Windows CE operating system image supplied by Arcom and purchase the Windows CE licenses directly from your local Microsoft distributor, you must sign an OEM Customer License Agreement (supplied by your Microsoft distributor). You are responsible for installing the operating system onto the Arcom product and maintaining compliance with the terms of the OEM
license.
If you build your own nk.bin image using Platform Builder, you must sign an OEM customer License Agreement (supplied by your Microsoft distributor).
You can install your Windows CE image using the following options:
- Purchase the license labels from your Microsoft distributor and install the operating system yourself.
- Sign a Third Party Installer Agreement with Microsoft. You can then buy the license labels from your distributor and nominate Arcom to install the operating system image. Arcom may charge a fee for installing and testing the Windows CE image.
You
must also ensure that an ‘End
User License Agreement, (EULA)’ is passed to your
customer. This requires that you make it available in the
documentation (printed or electronic) to ensure the end user
understands the terms of use.
