Wireless Edge Router

The WER1500 is a rugged edge router that provides wireless connectivity for data to a wide range of devices in both fixed and mobile applications taking full advantage of TCP/IP technologies on the Nextel network. It supports routing capabilities as well as standard Hayes compatible AT commands functioning as a modem in dial-up or dial-out modes over PSTN (Public Switch Telephone Network) networks.

The WER1500 is ideally suited for telemetry applications and can be configured with a permanent public IP address viewable from the Internet supplying terminal server/client functionality and routing techniques supported within the Linux kernel embedded on the local processor. As an edge router, it also presents a secure path, if required, to data assets utilizing both data encryption and authentication techniques for protection.

Field equipment can be connected serially through a RS232 or RS485 local port or through Ethernet on the local RJ45 port on the WER1500. Ethernet devices are routed over the Nextel network via NAT (Network Address Translation).

As an option, the WER1500 is configurable with an internal GPS receiver for pinpointing its location. The GPS data is available to applications or devices locally from the RS232/485 COM port or RJ45 Ethernet port or remotely over IEEE802.11b or over the Nextel network.

Adding IEEE802.11b enhances the flexibility of the WER1500 provides even more functionality in a dual wireless environment for use in applications such as field force automation. It will enable 11MB data rates for sizeable data downloads at hub facilities while retaining the Nextel wireless network connection for remote real-time activity.
