TARGET188EB is a powerful, yet
economic
high-speed target processor
|
The TARGET188EB is a Eurocard format single board computer featuring a 25MHz Intel 80C188EB embedded processor. The TARGET188EB includes an industrial
PC104 expansion interface, and an optional STEbus (IEEE-1000) interface. The STEbus interface is connected via the DIN41612 connector and is an ideal route to integrate much larger systems. The Eurocard format is an industrial form factor measuring 160mm x 100mm.

Utilizing a target board cuts
operating overhead to a minimum, because there is no need for a BIOS, an operating system,
or disks. Application code is developed on a desktop host PC, before being downloaded onto
the target board, via a high-speed serial link. Live application code source code can then
be manipulated on the target board. Once development is complete it is blown into the
onboard Flash EPROM for standalone operation. The TARGET188EB has the I/O capabilities
for industrial use and provides a low-cost hardware solution which can be coupled to
low-cost software development tools.
Embedded
programming techniques using the TARGET188EB are described in the
book, Programming Embedded Systems in C and C++ by Michael Barr
published by O'Reilly
& Associates with ISBN : 1565923545.
End-of-life
Notice: It
is Arcom’s policy to inform customers prior to final production to
allow a managed migration to a new product or, to allow you to order
sufficient product to maintain your long term production. Arcom has now
issued a Product Notice (APN) as notification of the planned End-of-Life
(EOL) for this standard product and all custom derivatives.

Software Support
TARGET188EB is supplied with the following support tools: (1) Standard Monitor,
allowing memory and I/O to be modified, code to be downloaded to RAM, and Flash EPROM to
be programmed (2) Turbo Debug Remote Monitor (for use with SourceVIEW) is pre-installed in
Flash memory or EPROM. C library routines are included for setting-up and
controlling the board. TARGET188 Board
Software Library
Included as standard is a full Library of Software Functions for all
onboard
features: Watchdog Control; Flash EPROM Programming; Digital I/O; Serial I/O; Counter
Timers; Interrupt Control and Management; Power Monitor; User LEDs. Supplied on disk.
Utility Disks
Three utility disks are provided. These contain the source and assembled code for
the pre-installed monitor software, which allows the user to become familiar with the
boards basic features. Also included is a utility, BIN2HEX, which allows the
conversion of assembled code into Intel Hex format, to enable them to be downloaded using
the on-board monitor. TCOM is a simple and fast DOS-based terminal emulator specifically
designed for Arcoms Target Boards.
TARGET Development Kits:
Program development and debug requires a PC host with Borland C/C++ compiler and
utilities installed, together with a TARGET Development Kit containing:
- Processor board (fitted with max. SRAM)
- Serial cable and interface to connect to PC host
- Arcoms SourceVIEW package of software development tools
- An external 5V power supply is also required
